Better Bodies is a service provider assisting individuals in the process of improving health and quality of life through pain free body movement and education. We personalize programs for our clients’ individual needs, goals and capabilities.

Better Bodies is a local business, officially started in 2004, at St. Thomas West Hospital Wellness Center in Nashville, TN. Cynthia Vowell, the founder, pursued her vision of helping people improving their mind, body, and spirit through exercise. She is dedicated to helping people move pain free or go from a lot of pain to manageable pain. We are passionate about teaching people to become the managers of their own body and health, avoiding the endless cycle of pain meds, countless doctor visits, and giving up the activities of life they found so enjoyable. They can feel joy in moving freely and effortlessly!

Cynthia began Better Bodies in 2004 and has devoted her life and career to health and fitness. Her background as a classically trained ballet dancer gave her a passion for helping others achieve efficiency of pain free movement.Her core belief is that everyone has the capability to move effortlessly and pain free by becoming the managers of their own body.  That is, given the tools and knowledge, they can correct muscular imbalances that lead to pain and injuries. Personalized exercise programs provide these tools. Typical exercise programs help the individual master fascial release, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular conditioning exercises and exercises designed to get the body moving functionally while on your feet.She specializes in biomechanics, or, how our body moves based on ground reaction force, gravity, mass and momentum.
She graduated from the Gray Institute’s fellowship program in Applied Functional Science and holds a certificate in Functional Manual Reactive Therapy.  She is also a graduate of the Mentorship Program: Function First, where she learned postural assessment and neuromuscular conditioning. With this knowledge she designs exercise programs with corrective exercises for muscular imbalances for each individual client.She has been a guest speaker for corporate events, on TV, and fitness writer for several subscribed publications.She directed The Wellness Center for Texaco in New Orleans, LA; Group Exercise Program for Baptist Fitness Center, Nashville.She owned a ballet school as a young adult in Paris, TN, and later an aerobic studio in Mandeville, LA .She enjoys her 4 grandchildren and family, and her hobbies are playing classical piano and oil painting.

Adriana, exercise specialist, has helped Better Bodies customers improve their quality of life since 2008. Her core belief is that every person in any phase of life should be able to experience the benefits of health and wellbeing through body movement, and that an individualized approach provides the most successful result. She uses her expertise in fitness, functional and corrective training, life long behavioral changes and personalized yoga to help adults and seniors.

She has reached people with a wide variety of programs. She helped create the Cancer Wellness Program for stem cell and bone marrow transplant patients and designed the Fitness Consults for cancer patients at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In individual programs, she has performed fitness screenings, one-on-one education, and has worked for a variety of clients including: Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation patients, individuals with orthopedic/neuromuscular disorders and chronic back pain, those interested in weight management, cancer patients and survivors in rehabilitation, seniors’ fitness programs, company employees wellness program, and others with special health concerns.

Continuing education has enabled her to hone her expertise over the years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from UNISINOS University in Brazil in 2006, with an emphasis on exercise for wellness, and health promotion and education. Her studies focused on fitness for seniors and postural reeducation, finishing her final dissertation with outstanding performance. To enhance her professional skills, in 2011 she received her certification as a Cancer Exercise Trainer through American College of Sports Medicine and American Cancer Society. In addition to her American College of Sports Medicine credentials, Adriana is also certified Health and Wellness Coach and Yoga Therapist in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya, also known as Viniyoga. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoors activities, practicing yoga, cooking and travel. Her other certifications include:
